1. Interprets specifications, technical designs and flow charts, builds, maintains and modifies the code for software applications, constructs technical specifications from a business functional model, and tests and writes technical documentation
2. Reviewing current systems
3. Presenting ideas for system improvements, including cost proposals
4. Working closely with analysts, designers and staff
5. Producing detailed specifications and writing the program codes
6. Testing the product in controlled, real situations before going live
7. Preparation of training manuals for users
8. Maintaining the systems once they are up and running
